Champaign school board sets two special meetings

CHAMPAIGN — Champaign's school board will have two special meetings in the next week — at 2 p.m. Friday and at 5 p.m. Nov. 17, at the University of Illinois' Wohlers Hall, Room 260, 1206 S. Sixth St., C.

Those meetings will feature closed sessions and district spokeswoman Lynn Peisker said the board plans to talk about the search for a new superintendent. Other topics allowed in closed session may also be discussed, she said. Those topics could include discussions about employees, negotiations, property acquisition or purchase, emergency security procedures, student discipline, potential litigation, self-evaluation or review of closed meeting minutes.

The search firm working with the district on the search presented six candidates during closed session Monday night, Peisker said, and the board plans to narrow that list to two or three candidates. At that time, their names will be announced and the public will be invited to weigh in on those finalists, she said.

Peisker said the board is committed to making the superintendent search a transparent process.

"It's just one step at a time," she said.
