Prairie Fields is favorite for name of new Savoy school
|
The name of "Prairie Fields" has emerged as the favorite for the new elementary school under construction in Savoy.
At a meeting Wednesday night, Savoy Village Board members discussed the new name for the school that's currently being called the "new Carrie Busey" in the Prairie Fields subdivision. The grade school is part of the Champaign Unit 4 School District.
Savoy Village Manager Dick Helton says the new name would both be unique to the village and go along with tradition.

Helton says the village hopes to finalize a plan to present to the Unit 4 School Board by mid-March.
Meanwhile, Unit 4 Interim Superintendent Judy Wiegand says the district is open to a new name for the Savoy school, while keeping the "Carrie Busey" tag on the current building on Kirby Avenue.

Wiegand made the comments Thursday during the NewsTalk 1400 WDWS Morning Show. Click here to listen to the full interview with Judy Wiegand.
The new school in Savoy is expected to open when students return to school in the fall.
