Unit 4 hires UHS principal as assistant superintendent
CHAMPAIGN — Laura Taylor, the principal at Urbana High Schoool, has been hired as the Champaign school district’s new assistant superintendent for achievement and pupil services.
She’ll start the job July 1.
The Champaign school board approved the hire after an executive session Monday night, but it was not announced until Tuesday morning.
“Dr. Taylor will be a great addition to our district,” Superintendent Judy Wiegand said in a press release. “Her background in secondary education will be such a great asset to our students, faculty and parents.”
In an emailed statement to Urbana parents on Tuesday morning, Taylor said:
"To say this has been one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made is a true understatement. Urbana means so much to me. I grew up four blocks from UHS and have wonderful memories as a Tiger that literally span decades. These past nine years have been incredibly rewarding for me as an educator. UHS students are by far the most kind, intelligent, and spirited group of young people I have had the luxury to serve. The thought of leaving them has caused me to cry many times. Unfortunately, sometimes opportunities are afforded that must be considered. In terms of my personal life and professional growth, I have determined the time is now to move forward in my career."
MoreYou Should ask her about the numbers games she has been utilizing while being active principal at Urbana. Plenty of kids have slipped through the crack because the so called " contract" she puts them on. Making kids sign contracts and then shipping them to adult ed to finish their education is wrong. Graduation rate will always look good when the struggling majority are shown the easy way out in the form of a GED. Sad, but its true.
