Danville to begin yard waste collection on Oct. 3
DANVILLE — The Danville Public Works Division will begin its fall yard waste collection program on Oct. 3.
Residents participating in the yard waste sticker program may begin setting out, on a weekly basis, their yard waste in their city-approved toters with a 2011 yard waste sticker attached. Other residents may set out yard waste on a weekly basis in approved two-ply paper yard waste bags. No other containers are acceptable, according to city officials.
Yard waste will be picked up the same day as regular household garbage service. Yard waste should be placed at the curb or street edge no later than 6 a.m. on collection day and no earlier than 4 p.m. the previous day. Yard waste should not be placed along or in alleys.
While supplies last, the city will sell yard waste bags — five bags for $3 — at the municipal building, 17 W. Main St., Danville. No tape or adhesive is permitted on yard waste bags, and yard waste in plastic bags or cardboard boxes will not be collected.
During the cleanup, brush should be placed no closer than 2 feet from the toter and should be bundled, tied with cotton twine or string and be no larger than 3 inches in diameter or more than 3 feet long. Brush may also be placed in city toters with yard waste stickers.
