DANVILLE — A permit for a second wind turbine farm in Vermilion County was pulled from the Vermilion County Board's meeting agenda Tuesday night.

The board was set to consider approving a permit that would give International Power America Inc., which merged with France-based GDF Suez, the go-ahead to build a 43-turbine wind farm west of Rossville.

Bill Donahue, the county's attorney, told board members Tuesday night that it was pulled from the agenda because company officials told the county Monday that because of scheduling conflicts, they would not be able to attend the county board meeting. Donahue said officials will try to reschedule consideration of their permit application for another board meeting.

It's not the first time this has happened with this company.

About a year ago, International Power America Inc. submitted its application to the county for a wind farm but pulled it from consideration just prior to the county's structural safety committee making a decision on the permit.

According to county officials, the company pulled its request last year because an upgrade of power transmission lines is necessary for the project, and such improvements would not be possible for a couple of years. The company was negotiating with Ameren on those upgrades, according to county officials.

Vermilion County Board Chairman Jim McMahon said the company still does not have an interconnect with the power company but has decided to go ahead and seek its permit.

The company's plan is to build about 43 turbines across about 8,000 acres of mostly farmland stretching west and north from a starting point more than a mile west of Rossville's village limits.
