H1N1 vaccine plans change; T'boro vaccinations Thursday
CHAMPAIGN – The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District will begin H1N1 vaccinations Thursday at Thomasboro Grade School, district Administrator Julie Pryde said.
The public health district will then set up vaccination clinics in the two year-round Champaign schools that are in session Friday, Kenwood and Barkstall elementary schools. Plans to offer vaccinations at Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School in Urbana on Friday were canceled because there wasn't enough time for the school to get ready, Pryde said.
Plans to vaccinate children at two other Champaign schools, Washington and Stratton elementary schools, were canceled because those schools are closed that day for parent-teacher conferences.
The district's original plans were to begin vaccinations Friday at six elementary schools in Champaign, Urbana and Rantoul with the highest number of children enrolled in free and reduced-cost lunch programs – on the premise that lower-income parents can least afford to miss work if their children are home sick. The swine flu vaccination is being shuffled to accommodate school schedules.
