Support group formed for young women facing breast cancer

URBANA – Young women facing breast cancer are invited to a new support group at Provena Covenant Medical Center.

The first meeting will be at 6 p.m. March 14, and the group will meet after that on the second Monday of each month from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the hospital at 1400 W. Park St., U, in the Cancer Center waiting area off Wright Street.

The group will offer peer-to-peer support for women in their 20s, 30s and 40s who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, who are undergoing treatment for breast cancer or who are survivors of breast cancer.

For more information, call Provena's Women's Health Navigator Louise Fellmann at 337-2466.

Fellmann said there has been an ongoing group at Christie Clinic for women with breast cancer. But this group is being organized to focus in particular on younger women to give them a chance to talk about some of the unique issues they face – for example, taking care of small children – while they are coping with breast cancer.
