Free self-care heart course offered
URBANA — If you or somebody you know has heart issues, here's an opportunity to take a free self-care course through the Provena Center for Healthy Aging.
The two-part course, called Every Heart Matters, will offer information about cardiovascular disease, heart attack, stroke and heart failure.
Sessions will be held from 2 to 4:30 p.m. May 25 and noon to 2:30 p.m. June 3.
The first session will feature a doctor and nurse addressing the risk factors for cardiovascular disease, the types, causes and symptoms of this disease, ways to control the symptoms and reduce the risk and safe exercises for people with heart issues.
The next class will feature a pharmacist discussing the benefits, side effects and interactions of cardiovascular-related medications.
Participants are asked to bring their medication list for a question-and-answer session.
Also at this session, a dietitian will also demonstrate heart-healthy cooking ideas and offer free samples.
The series will be held at the Provena Center for Healthy Aging wellness room at 410 E. University Ave., C.
Provena officials advise entering on the west side of building, with parking available in north and west lots.
