CHAMPAIGN — Christie Clinic and PersonalCare Insurance of Illinois have come to terms on a limited contract for next year, but it won't benefit state of Illinois employees or many others in employer group health plans.

The new contract will keep Christie Clinic and all its physicians in PersonalCare's provider network only for Medicare Advantage plans and self-funded employer group plans administered by PersonalCare, according to Christie spokeswoman Michelle Benson.

The contract — which will take effect Jan. 1, 2012 — won't include any state of Illinois group health plans, the two organizations said.

Nor will it include any health maintenance organization, preferred-provider organization, or point-of-service managed-care products offered by PersonalCare or its parent company, Coventry Health Care.

Christie Clinic announced in September that PersonalCare had chosen to terminate its contract with the clinic as of next year, while PersonalCare contended a required termination notice served as part of contract negotiations.

In a letter to patients posted on its website Nov. 3, Christie Clinic said it won't renegotiate or re-enter a contract with PersonalCare that includes any HMO, PPO or Open Access Plan products "because of the business practices of PersonalCare and serious differences over the past decade."

According to a written statement from the clinic and insurer released Wednesday, there aren't any ongoing negotiations between the two organizations that would include any HMO, PPO or POS products offered by PersonalCare.

Christie Clinic accepts many other health plans, and patients can find them listed on Christie's website at http://www.christieclinic.com under the patient information section, Benson said.
