Parade, activities set for Thursday

DANVILLE – The Downtown Danville and Downtown Danville Rotary Club Night of Lights Parade steps off at 6:30 p.m. Thursday from Vermilion and Williams streets, but before that a number of activities are planned in the downtown area.

From 3 to 6 p.m., First Presbyterian Church at the corner of North and Franklin streets will hold a chili supper. Cost is $4 for adults in advance or $4.50 at the door and $2 for children ages 4 through 12. Children younger than 3 eat free.

"Holiday Fun at the Deluxe" at the restaurant, 21 W. North St., sponsored by the Danville school district, is from 4 to 6 p.m. and will feature coffee, hot chocolate and cookies. Participants receive a coupon for a free book at the Danville Public Library's Nov. 21 book sale.

Music begins at 4 p.m. on the Temple Plaza stage at the corner of North and Vermilion streets. The schedule is as follows:

– 4 p.m.: Northeast Magnet Elementary School.

– 4:15 p.m.: Liberty Elementary School.

– 4:45 p.m.: Danville High School Madrigals.

– 5 p.m.: Edison Elementary School.

– 5:15 p.m.: Cannon Elementary School.

– 5:30 p.m.: Southwest Elementary School.

– 5:45 p.m.: Garfield Elementary School.

– 6 p.m.: North Ridge Middle School.

Mayor Scott Eisenhauer will emcee the parade. This year's event features 51 units, including businesses, organizations and individual friends groups.

Floats receiving awards will be on display from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. along with Santa and Mrs. Claus in the Winner's Circle, near CellularOne in the Towne Centre. CellularOne will provide children's photos with Santa and light refreshments.
