Spurlock Museum Guild sets auction for Oct. 30
URBANA – The Spurlock Museum Guild will have its annual fundraising auction on Oct. 30 at the I Hotel and Conference Center, 1900 S. First St., C.
With the theme "Platinum Guilded Auction" to observe the 20th anniversary of the founding of the guild, the event will include live and silent auctions and a buffet dinner.
This is the 18th auction hosted by the guild, founded in 1989 as the World Heritage Museum Guild. So far the guild has raised $400,000 for educational programs at the Spurlock Museum, a museum of world cultures now at 600 S. Gregory St., U, that succeeded the World Heritage Museum at Lincoln Hall on the University of Illinois campus.
Among items to be auctioned will be a week's stay in a restored house in a Turkish village near the Aegean coast; a five-course dinner for four; two high-tech, high-quality photo enlargements of two Mesopotamian cylinder seals from the Spurlock collection; a class in hors d'oeuvres making and party; a tour of the museum director's favorite things, followed by a reception; handmade jewelry; a case of Silver Oak premium vintage wine; a hand-knotted Qashqai rug; art works; and certificates for meals at local restaurants.
The honorary hosts of the auction will be Dean Ruth Watkins of the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Robert Young.
The auction preview will start at 6 p.m. The buffet dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the live auction at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $60 per person, $100 for individual sponsors or $250 for patrons. The deadline for reservations is Wednesday.
For tickets, call event co-chairs Pola Triandis at 344-6722 or Robin Fossum at 359 4270.
