CHAMPAIGN - Two students were taken to a hospital to be checked following a crash involving the school bus they were riding and a passenger van this morning in northeast Champaign.
The bus was eastbound on Queen's Way and went through a stop sign at Campbell Drive about 8:45 a.m. Monday, according to Champaign police Sgt. John Schweighart II. It's unknown if the bus slid through the intersection or just went through the stop sign, he said.
The bus driver, Betty Foley of Savoy, was given a ticket for failure to yield at a stop sign, police said. The bus was struck in the intersection by a northbound van. The driver of the van reported no injuries, Schweighart said. The bus was carrying 10 children to the Champaign school district's early childhood center at 405 E. Clark St., C.
"A couple kids complained of bumps on their cheeks," Schweighart said. "They were transported to the hospital. The remaining eight kids were loaded on another bus and taken to Marquette (School)."
