Balloon Splash will still take off

DANVILLE - Hot air balloons may fly over Lake Vermilion this weekend yet.

The Danville Boat Club's Balloon Splash 2003 was rescheduled for today, after rain canceled the event on Friday.

The event is being held at the Danville Boat Club, 15750 Boat Club Road. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 10 and younger.

Gates open at 3 p.m., with 13 balloons taking flight at about 6 p.m., weather permitting.

In the balloon splash event, pilots will try to fly their balloons to a pontoon boat covered with a large orange tarp, and drop a beach ball. The one landing closest to the target is the winner.

In addition to the balloons, people can try their luck at hitting a golf ball into a boat on the lake in the Krupp Gerlach Golf Challenge. CellularOne and Consumers Illinois Water Co. will sponsor a fireworks display after dark, and a disc jockey will provide music from 7 to 10 p.m.

American Chevrolet Oldsmobile Cadillac will provide shuttles to and from parking on Denmark Road. Illiana Medical Supply has donated the use of wheelchairs for guests needing assistance.

Food available for purchase will include barbeque chicken and pork, Italian beef and hot dogs.
