Provena plan rejected by Illinois EPA
DANVILLE – The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has rejected a proposal by Provena United Samaritans Medical Center ensuring that human body parts from the hospital will be disposed of legally in the future. The EPA staff is now deciding whether to refer the case for prosecution.
"We are aware that (the hospital) stopped this practice two years ago and certainly have no problem with that," IEPA spokeswoman Maggie Carson said Tuesday. "But the agency considered the violations were serious enough ... that they felt they needed to take the step in the enforcement process."
