PBL basketball coach's resignation accepted

PAXTON – Paxton-Buckley-Loda school board members approved the resignation of the district's high school boys' basketball coach Wednesday night.

PBL Coach Mark Portwood resigned his coaching position, effective immediately. No word was given on the timing or nature of Portwood's resignation.

PBL Superintendent Cliff McClure said the board will start the process of looking for a new boys basketball coach today and will continue the search for a new boys' football coach at the Ford County-based school system.

The former football coach, Jeff Graham, was hired earlier this year as the new principal at PBL Junior High School.

The board also received the resignation of teacher Duane Nance.

Nance was relieved of his duties as the junior high and high school softball coach last fall.

Nance has taken a position as a math teacher and high school softball coach at Marengo High School.

The board also approved plans to purchase acoustic panels to soundproof the junior high gym and for roof repair work at Clara Peterson Grade School.
