Man turns himself in after fatal accident

DANVILLE – A Georgetown man turned himself in to police after allegedly killing 18-year-old Brandon Yoho in a hit-and-run accident early Saturday morning.

Mr. Yoho died about 3:30 a.m. Saturday in the accident on County Road 500 N. about a quarter-mile east of County Road 1650 E. near LaSallette, according to the Vermilion County coroner's office.

Captain Rod Kaag, chief investigator for the Vermilion County Sheriff's Department, estimated that the accident occurred between 3 and 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

Jonathan Gallez, 21, was booked into the Vermilion County Jail at 3:30 p.m. Saturday after speaking with police.

Kaag said Mr. Yoho was with several friends at the time of the accident, some of whom were drinking.

Although witnesses said Mr. Yoho was also drinking, Kaag said he was waiting on reports to confirm that.

It is also unknown if Gallez was drinking at the time or if he knew Mr. Yoho, Kaag said.

Gallez was aware that he hit someone, Kaag said, and was alone at the time of the incident.

He is in custody and will be arraigned today on charges of obstructing justice and leaving the scene of a fatal accident, Kaag said.

The accident report was unavailable as of press time.
