20-year-old male student apparently fell from tower

URBANA – A man who apparently fell to his death from a tower on the University of Illinois campus has been identified.

UI police said the man found early Monday morning outside Campbell Hall, 300 N. Goodwin Ave., U, was Christopher Daniel Fu, 20.

Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said he planned to have an autopsy done today on Mr. Fu.

Mr. Fu, a junior majoring in computer science, was found dead on the ground outside the fence that surrounds the radio tower at the southeast corner of the building that houses WILL-TV and radio. A WILL employee found him at 12:21 a.m. Monday, Assistant UI Police Chief Jeff Christensen said.

Christensen said detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death, including interviewing family members and friends.

"There is no sign of any foul play. In any death investigation, we look at all the possibilities and let the facts show what happened," he said.

Christensen said police found eyeglasses and a scarf 140 feet up the tower. They were identified by friends as belonging to Mr. Fu.

"Whether it was accidental or intentional, we don't know," Christensen said of the fall.

Mr. Fu lived locally at 109 W. Pennsylvania Ave., U. He was from Wilmette. He had identification on him when found.
