Legislation to ease C-U water effort gets support

SPRINGFIELD – Champaign and Urbana moved a little closer on Tuesday to their shared goal of buying the local water system from Illinois American Water.

The Senate local government committee approved legislation the cities had requested to allow them to use eminent domain to take over the water system without going through the Illinois Commerce Commission.
