State's attorney opinion backs abstentions on budget

URBANA – If she wins election, Champaign County Board candidate Lisa Bell would need to abstain from voting on the county budget because county dollars provide most of the funding for her not-for-profit agency, according to a written legal opinion from Champaign County State's Attorney Julia Rietz.

Rietz released the legal opinion Tuesday, which she said came in response to a request Monday by county board member Greg Knott, a Homer Republican.
