Marni Nixon takes spotlight at Virginia
CHAMPAIGN – Moviegoers often wonder why Marni Nixon had to dub all of star Audrey Hepburn's songs in the 1964 musical "My Fair Lady." Film restorer Jim Katz showed them why during the opening night of Roger Ebert's Overlooked Film Festival at the Virginia Theatre.
After the movie ended Wednesday, projectionist James Bond screened the Covent Garden scene with Hepburn singing in her own voice "Wouldn't It Be Loverly." Some audience members murmured, "It's not that bad." Then Katz said it took 72 cuts to put together the one song.
