Soybean rust found in Illinois
URBANA – State agriculture officials today announced that Asian soybean rust has been discovered in Illinois.
But they say there's no cause for immediate alarm about the discovery of the fungal disease, which has destroyed soybean crops in South America in the past, because it's late in the growing season and farmers are in the process of harvesting the 2006 crop all over the state, including Pope County, where the detection was made late last week.
