Researchers use small sensors to get big picture

If you look down on an elephant with, say, a spy satellite or a Predator drone, it's no big trick to see the whole beast, not to mention pinpoint its exact location on the planet.

But cheap and tiny sensors able to do one thing – detect motion, for instance – and lacking fancy features like a camera and Global Positioning System capability would be more akin to the proverbial blind men.
