Urbana alderman calls for study on cell phone ban
URBANA – Despite only a mild reception from city council members, Urbana Alderman Charlie Smyth is pressing ahead with his plans to propose a ban on cell phone use by city drivers.
At a council caucus Monday night, Smyth said that not only does he want a ban on drivers using cell phones, he also would like to see "inattentive driving" made a city ordinance violation that could result in greater fines and penalties.
