Mayors call for Amtrak expansion at Champaign meeting
CHAMPAIGN – Attention, Amtrak: A city that boasts a level one hospital trauma center and the headquarters for Caterpillar could certainly use some passenger rail service, Peoria's Mayor Jim Ardis says.
"We're here today to get on your radar screen, Mr. President," Ardis told Amtrak President Alex Kummant Tuesday, at a meeting in Champaign that was called by U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin to discuss the potential for expanding rail service throughout Illinois.
