Provena appeals tax status ruling

SPRINGFIELD – Provena Covenant Medical Center and its parent company, Provena Hospitals, are appealing to the courts to restore Covenant's property tax exemption in Champaign County.

Provena filed suit in Sangamon County Circuit Court Thursday, claiming there were numerous errors in Illinois Department of Revenue Director Brian Hamer's Sept. 29 decision that stripped the Urbana hospital of its property tax exemption.
