UI alum hopes to outpace competitors with electric sports car

URBANA – Back when Martin Eberhard was restoring parts of a '66 Mustang in his dorm room and taking his girlfriend on a tour of junkyards around Champaign-Urbana, the writing was on the wall.

Today, that girlfriend, Carolyn Howk, is Eberhard's wife, and he's building electric sports cars that can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds.
