Panel votes to phase in electricity rate hikes
SPRINGFIELD – Ameren and Commonwealth Edison would have to phase in their planned rate hikes over three years, under a compromise bill on its way to the Senate.
A Senate committee approved the bill on Wednesday evening, and the full chamber could vote on it today. The measure has the backing of Senate President Emil Jones, D-Chicago, but House Speaker Michael Madigan, D-Chicago, still favors a three-year freeze on electricity rates.
