Electricity rate relief a failure
SPRINGFIELD – The General Assembly adjourned the six-day veto session on Thursday without easing the shock of electricity rate hikes scheduled to take effect this winter.
That means area households powered by Ameren will see their bills go up by about 40 percent on average, and Chicago-area Commonwealth Edison customers face a 22 percent hike, when a 10-year freeze on electricity rates expires on Jan. 1, 2007.
