Urbana mayor urges reversal of rental loophole

URBANA – Mayor Laurel Prussing is urging the city council to reverse an amendment it made last week exempting landlords from city inspection if they rent out two or fewer rooms in the same house where they live.

The amendment to the proposed rental registration and inspection ordinance, suggested by Alderwoman Danielle Chynoweth, was approved in a 4-2 vote, though Prussing argued against it.
