Rep. Chapin calls for immediate legislative special session
SPRINGFIELD – State Rep. Chapin Rose, R-Mahomet, wants an immediate special session of the General Assembly to head off next month's electricity rate hikes, but December legislative action appears unlikely.
Area households powered by Ameren will see their bills go up by an average of 40 percent or more and Chicago-area Commonwealth Edison customers face a 22 percent hike when a decade-long rate freeze expires on Jan. 1. Lawmakers are not scheduled to return to Springfield until Jan. 7.
