Judge gives Pirtle home incarceration
URBANA – A landlord whose tenant died of carbon monoxide poisoning almost three years ago will spend the next six months inside his house.
Former Champaign City Council member J.W. Pirtle, 74, who listed an address in the 1200 block of Carver Drive, Champaign, was sentenced Wednesday by Judge Heidi Ladd to six months in jail for criminal housing management, a misdemeanor, in connection with the Jan. 29, 2004, death of Otha Lee Harmon, 41. The maximum Pirtle faced was up to 364 days in jail.
