Man charged in sex abuse case following traffic stop

URBANA – A man with ties to Champaign County was charged Monday with aggravated criminal sexual abuse for allegedly committing sex acts with a teen runaway from Arizona.

Ryan Nibbe, 28, for whom authorities listed addresses in Tucson, Ariz., and Rantoul, is scheduled to be back in Champaign County Circuit Court on Dec. 4. State's Attorney Julia Rietz said Nibbe was arrested Thursday in north Urbana about 1 p.m. by Illinois State Police who pulled his vehicle over for a traffic violation on U.S. 45 near Kenyon Road.

In the vehicle with him was a 15-year-old girl and two other adults. The girl told the trooper Nibbe had engaged in acts of fondling with her at a motel in Champaign on Nov. 13 and again on Thursday.

Judge Richard Klaus set Nibbe's bond at $150,000.

Rietz said Nibbe has prior convictions in Vermilion, Macon and Ford counties and was on parole for a 2006 aggravated driving under the influence conviction in Champaign County. He was also wanted for failure to appear in a misdemeanor battery in Champaign County.
