Parade of Lights canceled; tree lighting rescheduled

CHAMPAIGN – The seventh annual Parade of Lights, which was to have been held in downtown Champaign on Saturday evening, was canceled by the ice and wet weather early Saturday afternoon.

The tree lighting ceremony, which was scheduled to begin at One Main Plaza at approximately 6:45 p.m., will be rescheduled.

This year's parade had had 57 entries, including floats, cars, trucks and three marching bands. The park district, The News-Gazette, WDWS-AM and WHMS-FM and the Champaign Downtown Association were sponsoring the event.
