Former Chiefs want to take over trademark
A group of former Chief Illiniweks has asked the University of Illinois to transfer the Chief trademark to an organization run by the former Chiefs.
In a letter sent today to the board of trustees and UI President B. Joseph White, the former Chiefs said they plan to offer specific recommendations to the university that would allow Chief Illiniwek to continue but would lift UI athletics from the NCAA sanctions.
