Student housing getting upgrade to prevent dangerous fires
CHAMPAIGN – Morgan Zeeb, a University of Illinois junior, was in her room on the third floor at Newman Hall last summer when another coed burst into the room.
It was 10:40 a.m. Aug. 20, a Sunday morning, and the student told Zeeb that smoke was pouring into her room. Zeeb, a resident adviser, rushed down the hallway and saw that smoke was coming out of a shared vent in the girl's closet. That meant a fire was occurring in the next room.
