Champaign's tense relations with water company on display
CHAMPAIGN – The state of relations between the city of Champaign and Illinois American Water was summed up with one gesture Tuesday night: a walkout.
Water company officials started the evening by giving a detailed presentation about their plans to construct a $51 million water treatment plant and well field this year about a mile north of Bondville. The city council, meeting in study session, then gave its tentative but unanimous approval to pursuing an annexation agreement for the 40-acre site, a move the company was seeking.
