Mahomet representative proposes task force
SPRINGFIELD – Worried that Illinois' higher education system is losing ground, state Rep. Chapin Rose, R-Mahomet, is calling for a special bipartisan task force this summer.
"We have world-class universities in Illinois, but our higher education system is definitely at a crossroad," he said. "Budget shortfalls and rising tuition rates recently earned us an 'F' grade in terms of providing an affordable college education. Nationally, we are falling behind China, Korea, Japan and other countries in terms of preparing our children to succeed in today's work force. We cannot continue down this same path. It's time to take a hard look at what's working and what isn't, and to take action to reclaim our competitive advantage."
