House fire offers lesson in proper disposal of ashes

CHAMPAIGN – A bag of ash ignited and started a house fire Saturday in Champaign.

Firefighters were called at 1106 W. Park St. shortly before noon, after neighbors called 911. When firefighters arrived, a fire on the front porch was working up the outside walls of the porch near the front door, and smoke was filling the street.
