UI's McBride receives fine, 2 years of conditional discharge
URBANA – Former University of Illinois basketball player Rich McBride was sentenced today to two years of conditional discharge and fined $1,000 for driving under the influence of alcohol last fall.
"The cold hard facts are there is a culture of alcohol abuse on campus and precious little is being done to deal with that, " said Champaign County Associate Judge Rich Klaus in declining to impose the least severe penalty requested by McBride's attorney, Mark Lipton of Champaign.
