State files lawsuit against local clinics
URBANA – In his eighth-floor office this week, Carle Clinic Chief Executive Dr. Bruce Wellman was the picture of a beleaguered manager trying to keep a large physician practice afloat in a state that doesn't cover the cost of medical care for needy patients on Medicaid.
But in an antitrust lawsuit filed this morning that accuses Carle Clinic and Christie Clinic of illegally conspiring to fix or control state Medicaid payments, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan paints a far different picture.
