Governor signs bill moving primary to Feb. 5
SPRINGFIELD – Gov. Rod Blagojevich signed legislation on Wednesday that will move the Illinois primary election to Feb. 5, six weeks earlier than usual.
HB 426, which passed the House and Senate by wide margins, is designed to give the state more prominence in the 2008 presidential election process. Nineteen other states have either adopted a Feb. 5 primary date or are considering doing so.
