Victim ID'd as former Danville resident

DANVILLE – Police continue to investigate the shooting death of Marquet Newsome, who was killed Tuesday afternoon near his grandmother's house on Cherry Street.

Police received a call shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday that shots were fired in the 100 block of Cherry Street between Jackson and Hazel streets. They found Mr. Newsome lying in an alley off Cherry Street upon arrival. He was reported dead at the scene.
