Clan gathers to celebrate 75th consecutive reunion
From an immigrant couple, Onorato and Mary Pinta Vacketta, have come more than 300 descendants, and on Sunday, a good portion of generations three through seven met at Zamberletti Park for the 75th consecutive Vacketta Family Reunion.
The story of this family reflects that of many immigrant families who came to the area. Onorato first came to the U.S. as a boy, but later returned to Italy, married and started a family. He came back to the U.S. in 1891, leaving his wife and two children and arriving in New Orleans, trying to earn a living in the sugar cane fields.
