Change gives Champaign coroners choice on inquests
Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup and his staff last week completed review of two death investigations and, since they agreed on the manner of death, he signed death certificates.
A change that took effect in January allows coroners in Illinois to decide whether to have an inquest to determine the manner of death in a coroner's case, which includes all unnatural or suspicious deaths, including homicide, suicide or accidental death.
