Protesters criticize local property assessment fairness
CHAMPAIGN – Melissa Mitchell, who lives in the 500 block of South Chicago Avenue, was one of about 15 Champaign residents who gathered near the Champaign City Building on Tuesday evening to protest local property assessments.
Wearing a sign around her neck that read "Another over assessed cash cow" and "Time to moove from Champaign," Mitchell said high property taxes are causing her to rethink where she lives.
