Campus union considers strike an option down the road
Frustrated with the state of its contract negotiations with the University of Illinois, a campus union recently took action that could lead its members to strike later this year.
Last weekend, members of the Service Employees International Union Local 73, Chapter 119, voted overwhelmingly in favor of a strike authorization vote, which means UI building and food service workers could hold a three-day strike down the road, said Phil Martini, the union's lead negotiator.
