Governor tells schools Madigan is to blame for late funding
SPRINGFIELD – Gov. Rod Blagojevich sent a letter to each of the state's school superintendents on Friday, blaming House Speaker Michael Madigan for a delay in funding increases for public schools.
While schools are due to get an extra $554 million under the new state budget, the cash cannot be distributed without a companion measure called a budget implementation bill. The Senate has passed that legislation, but the House has not, and its members are not scheduled to return until Oct. 2.
