Urbana residents push for demolition reviews
URBANA – A number of residents told Urbana City Council members Monday night that they want regulations requiring a delay or review of a building's historic significance before the city issues a demolition permit.
The city council, meeting as the committee of the whole, had proposals before it to consider demolition review to protect historic buildings and a second proposal to create incentives for historic preservation. But a busy agenda kept the council from discussing both issues, and they were forwarded to the next committee meeting on Sept. 24.
