Douglas County deputy's death ruled a homicide
URBANA – Although he died of infection from a hole in his diverticulum, Douglas County Chief Deputy Tommy K. Martin's death was ruled a homicide Thursday by a Champaign County coroner's jury.
The coroner's jury in Champaign County was called upon to determine the manner of Mr. Martin's death because he died at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana on July 17, after having been shot while on duty June 21.
