Veto session may address moment of silence bill

The sponsor of a bill to require a moment of silence at the start of each school day intends to seek an override of Gov. Rod Blagojevich's veto when the General Assembly returns to Springfield this week.

"There's nothing wrong with having a moment to reflect on the day's activities," said state Sen. Kimberly Lightford, D-Maywood. "The bill doesn't require that the teacher lead off with a Scripture, or that someone has to pray or any of that. It simply says a moment of silence."
